Day 8

It’s ferry day.

We left the cabin and headed to Baddeck. Great little town. The plan was lunch, waterfall hike, visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. We accomplished 2 out of 3. It started to rain, so the waterfall hike had to be forgotten.

After those tasks accomplished we went to find Low Point Lighthouse. First we took a 3 minute ferry ride, to avoid a long drive around from our starting point. After the visit we headed to dinner, same place as last year in Sydney, the restaurant by the giant fiddle.

We had 3 hours to kill until we queue up for the 11 p.m. ferry. We spent that time at a local park, watched youtube videos. We arrived at the ferry terminal around 8:30 and we were loaded on at 10:30. If you ever do this crossing, pro tip: spring for the cabin.

Day 9

We woke up to see Newfoundland from our window! Once we landed, we made our first stop at Tim Hortons and the visitor center.

We did food shopping and arrived at our next campground, Lomond in Gros Morne National Park.

We realized the maps on Mike’s gps didn’t download any hiking maps. We drove to the park’s Discovery Center to use there wifi…only to find our campground installed wifi at the kitchen shelter.

After dinner it was a walk down to the beach, returned to read and sleep.

Day 10

The day started with my 2 a.m. view to the loo photo.

Rain and wind are predicted all day, lucky for us it held off till breakfast was consumed.

What to do on this day, of course hike and find 3 of 7 new storytelling huts installed throughout the parks. You look through a rectangle opening and create your own story about the landscape you see.

First hike was Tablelands (a repeat for us) to see the Earth’s mantle. It was windy and rainy but still amazing.

Second hike was the Eastern Point Trail in Green Point to find the first storytelling hut. Wow, we didn’t expect such a great trail and we found the hut.

We lunched in Woody Point and went to find hut #2 of the day. It required a very short walk on a gravel path. Bonus we found a lighthouse.

Last hut of the day was Glenburnie Binch Head Shoal Brook.

We returned to camp around 2:30 to crazy winds and some rain. The hikes and the weather required us to take a short nap.

I am writing this from the camp kitchen because we have wifi. On tonight’s agenda is to survive the wind…
