This is a story of a girl who found the woods and the woods found her. Actually it is the developing story of Ann & Mike who have always liked to walk and see the beauty of the world around them.
The whispering of the forest first found us years ago in Mexico, climbing Mayan Ruins in remote jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula. Memories of ancient gods greeted us to the treasures of the jungles and teased us to discover more.
We have ventured to the rim of the Grand Canyon in early morning light, to the sound of wings taking flight and mule deers gently sniffing the morning dew.
Starkness beckoned us in New Mexico’s landscapes. We challenged thunderclouds to scramble Plaza Blanca, alone among ghostly stone statues. Georgia O’keeffe’s Chimney Rock requested our presence, but only one of us accepted the invitation.
Not only have we explored land, but also the aqua blue of the sea. The Exumas, in particular Staniel Cay, have allowed us to glide into forests of the water. We’ve met creatures that hide in coral forests. We’ve played with the sea animals among fields of turtle grass and spied upon the secrets of this amazing universe.
Spring of 2009 awakened in us a desire to walk the woods of New England and listen to the story of the forest. As our travels take us to land and sea, I hope you will come along on our journey.
In 2011, the hubby and I spent a few weeks housesitting on the beautiful island of Kauai. We spent five weeks here the summer of 2010 and two weeks on Oahu. In 2013, we’ve decided to base ourselves on the North Shore of Oahu for a bit of time. We returned once more to Oahu for Christmas 2015 and spent five more weeks on Kauai, the summer of 2017. In between our Hawaii jaunts, we have discovered the Catskills of New York and the beautiful island of Long Island Bahamas.
Join me as I retell the stories of the woods and sea that surround us.
