The morning sunrise was beautiful and set the weather tone for the day of hiking.

We left after breakfast for Treena’s Trail or as the locals call it “Back of the Land”. We walked to the trail head from our rental. The five mile hike was amazing and we had the perfect weather day.

This was our 8th day of continuous hiking. Our bodies were tired, we stayed in, read and packed the car for the long drive in the morning.

We ended the night watching the moonrise.

Day 18

Dang, it was a sunrise. The colors went from soft pastel to flaming red over a period of 30 to 45 minutes. I went out to see the different duck families meet up and sip my coffee.

Today we drove the 8 hours to Gander, for overnight. Gander is the town that took in 7,000 people on 9/11. It is consider the crossroads of the world. The play, Come From Away is based on the events of the town when they took in the stranded passengers and crew.

The rental was just one nighter, nothing fancy.

Day 19

Up early to drive to our next spot. This was a change of plans stay. We were supposed to be camping, but the weather for the next few days was foggy and soggy. Once again we decided to book a rental.

On our way to the next place, we did a short hike in Greenspond. It is a 6km loop, but we only did an out and back of two miles because of, you guessed it, rain. We really wish we could have done the entire loop. The town was settled in 1690s. It became a major trading port because of proximity to shipping lanes and was referred to as the “Capital of the North”.

Off in the distance we saw Puffin Lighthouse. It sits on an island and it is still manned to this day, it hasn’t become automated. Sadly you can’t visit it, just admire it from afar.

We had a three hour drive to the house. As the crow files, it might be only a 45 minute drive.

We arrived at this rental in thick fog and heavy rain. If the fog ever goes away, the view in the village of Open Hall will be lovely.
