Day 1 – CT to ME
Honestly the first day was driving to Maine, which wasn’t exciting. I did get a little giddy as soon as we drove over the bridge to Maine. I consider Maine my east coast heart home.

Once we landed in Bangor, Maine we grabbed a pizza from Portland Pie Company to eat in the hotel, really nothing exciting…which is a good thing sometimes.

Day 2 – Spirits
Our first stop of the day was the overlook to Mt. Katahdin. Here I learned about the Penobscot tribe that believed the spirit, Paloma lives on the summit in the summer months. He is the guardian of the mountain. According to legends no human is supposed to ascend to the peak. Those who risk it may face his wrath. Another version is he aids hikers. Pick whatever version you want.

We left Bangor for our first stop, the Saint Vincent de Paul Cemetery to find the final resting places of my great, 2nd great grandparents and a great aunt and uncle.

My grandfather and great grandparents were born in Canada, while my 2nd great grandparents came over from Ireland and settled in New Brunswick.
Seeing their final resting place was very spiritual for me.

We then went across the street to the river front marina to figure out our next stop. Going on the green was a dachshund dog show. I watched the trick competition and Slinky in the photo was shot and played dead. Slinky didn’t win the competition.

We drove to Moncton and hit up a chocolate shop, bean to bar and a coffee roaster, both are vital stops on any trip.

Today was the spirits of Indigenous people, my ancestors and beans (because chocolate and coffee beans are sacred).
