Day 3 – A strange beginning to the day

As sun was rising, I was preparing for a skype job interview.  This all came about last week and I was relieved to know the school district was willing to do a skype interview.  Mike thought I should skype from outside, but at 6 a.m. I don’t think the neighbors would appreciate hearing my answers to interview questions.  He thought if my answers stunk, the committee might still be swayed by the beautiful scenery.  I opted instead to skype from the bedroom with a palm tree in the background.

After that it was time to hit a trail.  We drove two minutes down the road to Kealia Trail. Parked at Dillingham Airfield.  P1040867 P1040869

We weren’t going to do the whole trail, only the first 1.3 miles to the picnic table.

We started at 8 a.m. and it took us an hour to go up 900 feet.  We had an official greeter at the start of the trail.

The trail was full of many switchbacks and even at such an early hour it was hot.  Thankful for our hiking jaunts in the White Mountains since May, the step up on rocks were not taxing at all.

The lower parts had longer switch backs that weren’t steep at all.

P1220400We headed down after refueling and our descent was about 40 minutes.  We were both surprised at the number of people out on the trail, trail runners, exercise enthusiasts, and serious hikers.  Of course I had to embarrass myself and slip right in front of two tourists.  I laughed, but they had a look of concern. Mike and I tried to explain, it wasn’t a real hike for me, if I didn’t fall, at least once on a trail.

After the hike, we headed home and went immediately to the ocean.  The ocean soothed our tired legs and revived us to make some lunch.  We had fresh avocado with egg. So  ono.  After lunch we did a drive over to a farmstand for some fruit.  We can’t get to a farmer’s market until Thursday and we need our fruit!!

Upon our return, it was time to sit by the water and read, ok I snoozed. While I was reading, I mean napping, Mike was grilling up our chicken we picked up from VJs yesterday.

It was a lazy late day afternoon of snoozing, writing, editing pictures.  After dinner we had we had a nightly viewing of the sunset.  Tomorrow our start will be our traditional Hawaii start, coffee, walk on the beach, back for breakfast, more coffee and planning the day.

Aloha friends!!
