Day 3 Fundy Trail Parkway

Guess what? We woke up to fog. We still kept the plan to drive the Fundy Trail Parkway on our way to Nova Scotia.

The plan included a long hike, stopping at the scenic overlooks (there are lots) and maybe enjoy some food at one of the picnic areas.

Over the years we’ve learned Mother Nature will instruct us what to do. Today she instructed us to enjoy the mist/fog, skip the long hike to the gorge and meander along a beach as the tide goes out. On it Mother Nature!

We paid our entrance fee and the woman in the booth apologized for the weather. Nothing we can do about that. Off we went.

Our first stop was to view Fuller Falls. It was a fun walk down to it on cabled stairs.

Second stop was the Salmon River

Our next stop was Long Beach. I think we spent an hour here walking around the beach, walking the sand as the tide receded. So many beautiful rocks and Mike even saw a bald eagle. It was a great hour exploring. Our timing was perfect because as we left a tour group was arriving.

A bit past the beach we stopped at a lookout and were amazed by the mist/fog that had layered itself.

Our final stop was the Walton Glen Gorge. We had planned to do Eye of the Needle hike which would have brought us to the base of the Gorge, but it wasn’t mean to be today. We had to settle to try to see it from the observation deck above the gorge.

We didn’t get the day we expected, we got the day the way Mother Nature wanted us to see it. I think honestly she just wants us to come back for another longer visit.

We wanted to do the Fundy National Park, but our day of unexpected delights left us tired. We drove to Moncton for lunch at Harvest Clean Foods. We enjoyed it so much we picked up a to go order for dinner.

We then headed to our hotel in Truro, Nova Scotia.

Tomorrow we are off to Cape Breton Island and our first campsite of the trip. There is no cell service or wifi, so the next posts will be written on Sunday when we arrive out our Airbnb.
