Day 7 -Syndicate Falls and Nature Trail

Mother Nature decided to pound the surf today. We took our coffee and headed down the road to watch the surf for a bit. The waves took out part of Keepin’ It Real’s lower deck and part of the pier. Roads were washed out throughout the islands and some roads had landslides covering them.

After breakfast we gathered our food and gear for a day out. We crossed our fingers that the roads were ok where we wanted to go.

We made it to Syndicate Falls which is on private land. It was $5 usd a head. A bargain if you ask us. We had to cross the river 4 times. We were warned it might be rough and we would need to use the rope. Lucky for us, it wasn’t difficult, crossing the Hanakapiai Falls in Kauai was rougher.

The Syndicate Falls was breathtaking. It was so strong, we couldn’t get under the waterfall, as we would be crushed. We played around for a bit before heading back to the car for the next destination.

I just had to take one last look back at how stunning this fall was.

Our next stop was Syndicate Nature Trail. We drove over to it via a beautiful road lined with tropical flowers and fruit trees. We also saw some of the largest mango trees ever (so no picture of those mango trees).

This trail had a pavilion, which included a gift shop and a little snack shop, both closed. However it had bathrooms that were open and picnic tables.

It was a lollipop trail. We meet some birders on the trail looking for Sisserou and Jaco parrots. If you want to see these birds, this is the place. We didn’t see any, put also didn’t give it time to wait for them. The trail was beautiful in the rainforest.

It was a short trail, roughly 1.3 miles but it took us about 50 minutes due to all the oohhs and ahhhs we had.

Our drive out of this area offered us views to the ocean. Mike is becoming more confident driving which means I can look around more and spot those photo ops.

As we drove through Portsmouth, we noticed a boat that we hadn’t seen before. Hmmmm not where it should be?

Once back to the cottage, we had the task of doing laundry. We still do mundane things even on vacation.

It was a good day.

Tomorrow is still TBD.
