The morning started off foggy, so we decided to find the sun.

We made the plan to drive the Baccalieu Coastal Drive on the Avalon Peninsula.
Our first stop was to see where Amelia Earhart took off from for her first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. There was also a statue of Amelia but it was stolen within the past two years. A huge plane is there, but it wasn’t the one she flew in. Also a boat that ran around was in the cove.

We next made a coffee stop at Dark Star Coffee Roasters. This place has a great view from the back deck.

From here we moved onto Salmon Cove Beach. We originally thought it was a hike, but it included a huge beach. We also had a whale sighting from the trail.

We continued our way to a tiny fishing village to check out the fishing stages.

After that we went to the Heritage Lighthouse. Our timing was perfect because a town worker asked us if we wanted to go in the lighthouse. No brainer of course we did. I remained at the bottom while Mike went up to the top. What a treat because it is not open to the public.

After that excitement we made the plan to go to Dildo Brewery for a pizza and beer. Spoiler alert after being seated for over 10 minutes no server had acknowledge us, so we left. Before we left I was able to take a photo of the famous Dildo sign, Jimmy Kimmel gifted the town of Dildo.

After being disappointed in the service here, we headed back to the rental. We hoped the weather was finally clear of fog in our area. It looked promising, but as we drove in the fog decided to appear. We were determined to get a walk in on the Chance Cove Coastal Trail.
Off we went to walk from our rental to the hike. We stare at the trail across the cove from us, every day. It’s a half mile walk to the start of the trailhead. We are both excited that we did this hike, even though the weather wasn’t perfect. We even saw an eagle, dead capelin and cod on a beach, two of three stunk!

It was very full day (and I think I may have missed a stop or two).
