Day 10 -A Visit to a Vista, Lighthouse, the Police Station and a Seaview Walk

I’m telling today’s tales in order of appearances. You must be patient for the police story.

We hiked Starlite Trail, part of the Long Range Mountains today. The write ups for this hike didn’t do it justice. It was 3.4 miles, the last mile was straight up. We gained 1200 ft of elevation. Our total time 2:33.

This ranks up there as one of all time favorite hikes. I didn’t know what to expect at the top. Once up there I kept saying “oh Sh#$ it’s stunning”. When we looked off to the mountains on one side we saw snow patches and the mountains reminded us of Kauai but with pine trees.

Our next stop was Point of Ray lighthouse. We visited the museum and gift shop. The two volunteers were lovely people. We talked politics and apologized for our country. We told them it was mind boggling. They felt bad for us. I had to finally stop talking politics because it was downer. Mike purchased some partridge berry jam. One of the ladies told us to stop at Miss M’s Bakery and Diner for biscuits to go with the jam. Locals suggest, we listen.

After that stop, we headed to Foodland for groceries. As were leaving we heard over the loud speakers “Would the owners of a blue Subaru license plate Connecticut…” please come to the courtesy desk. Aww crap what did us foreigners do?

A girl, driving her boyfriend’s large pickup truck, hit our car, damaging the front bumper. She wasn’t hurt but visibly shaken. People went out of their way to help us figure out what to do. We followed the girl to a local collision place. They put a temporary fix on our car (no charge)to keep it safely going for our trip.

They suggested we go file a police report, so off we all went. Our first time with the Royal Mounted Canadian Police, nice folk. Now we deal with our insurance company complicated because this happened in a foreign country.

After that we decided to go for another hike, one I’ve wanted to do for a while. It was the Harvey Trail. The history behind this trail is amazing. The scenery was windswept and actually the wind almost swept us away. It was a short trail only 2.3 miles and took us 60 minutes to complete.

We are back at the rental, exhausted from all the drama of hiking, views and bumper smashing.

Tomorrow we head north about 5 hours away to our next rental.
