Day 4,5, and 6

Day 4 – Friday

On our way out of Truro, Nova Scotia we stopped at Noveltea for a pickup me latte.

Our first stop in Cape Breton was Port Hood Beach. It was great to have our first beach walk.

We next hiked Egypt Falls, a 1.1 mile hike. These falls rivaled the ones we visited in Dominica.

We arrived at Cap Rouge Campground inside of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The campground is beautiful and our site had an ocean view. The campground had some good and annoying things about it. You had to cart your camping gear to your site. The good is that you don’t have cars driving by your campsite being noisy. The annoying – making multiple trips from car to campsite with all your gear.

The major annoying thing was the campsite neighbor that NEVER stopped talking to his friends. No really he was a verbal stream of words from when we arrived till at least 2 a.m. both nights. Park rangers were alerted and they offered to give us a cabin for the last night, but to much stuff would have to be moved. Luckily I tired myself out, so I slept so soundly the second night I didn’t hear him.

We walked to the beach that was at the campground and walked for a bit.

Returned to site for dinner and sunset viewing.

Day 5

After breakfast hiked the Skyline Trail. 4.1 miles, took us almost 2 hours. Hike started in heavy mist and an almost empty parking lot. Mist came and went but shortly before the stair section to the viewing platform, it all cleared. The winds were really strong on the stairs. We had the viewing platforms to ourselves. On the way out, sun peeked out. As we exited the trail to a full parking lot, even heavier mist and rain started.

We stopped at two viewing spots on our way back to the campsite. We had to reposition the tent, so decided to do that between hikes.

Afterwards we did two small hikes, Benjie’s Lake, 1.75 miles 40 minutes and The Bog, boardwalk .3 miles. Benjie’s was meh viewing. The Bog was great. I kept saying “bogs are so cool”.

It was back to the site for dinner and sunset.

Day 6

First cup of coffee was at the Red Chairs at the campground. Then it was back to camp for breakfast and pack up of site and on to next spot.

First hike was Corney Brook Trail, 4 miles, under two hours. Second hike was MacIntosh Brook, 1 mile, 15 minutes. Between hikes we stopped at some overlooks on The Cabot Trail.

We ate a late lunch at South Harbour Pines Pizza, we had a veggie pizza. Then we stopped at Lighthouse Ice Cream Parlor for ice cream.

We arrived at the rental house around 4. The views from the back deck are amazing. Unfortunately clouds have settle in, so no stunner of a sunset tonight.
