Day 21 – Shake It Up Baby

At 4 a.m. we were awakened by a grumbling sound with a little shimmy of the house. Our first thought was did the jeep roll into the house and then we realized it was an earthquake. It was short lived. We rolled over went back to sleep.

While making breakfast same thing happened, we looked at each other and shrugged. Let’s just add in earthquakes to our vacation, because why not! Here is the official data on them.

We had breakfast waiting for the next shake to occur. It didn’t but we had another rainbow this morning, actually two.

We decided to go hike Boeri Lake, located where we hiked around Fresh Water lake a few weeks ago.

Fresh Water is down considerably more than when we hiked around it. Probably was the water that fell on us at Trafalgar Falls yesterday.

The trail starts up from Fresh Water Lake. This lake is Dominica’s highest mountain lake. It is a crater lake.

The trail was short, a little under a mile one way with an elevation gain of 650 feet. The trail wasn’t technical, just slippery in spots. Honestly my legs after yesterday’s adventure were very tired and I lost a lot of my hiking confidence. It took me a while to enjoy the hike.

We kept running into these lizards all over the trail.

When we arrived at the lake, a couple was already there. They never offered to move, even for a few minutes so we could get a photo properly of the lake.

You can swim at the lake, but you have to cross a rock field and after yesterday I needed a break from rock scrambles.

On our drive out there was a little hot spring that Mike jumped into. I opted not to.

It was a long day and we are hoping not to be woken up overnight by anymore shaking.
