Today our day was dictated by the need to get fresh fish.
Yesterday we stopped at the fish market in Portsmouth and they were out of fish. We asked what time should we be at the market to get fresh fish. The answer was 10 a.m.
The plan was made. If fish was available we would get some, drop it at the rental and either go hiking at Fort Shirley or snorkel. If the fish was all gone and we had to go to Roseau, that would be it for the day. Going into Roseau is any hour drive at least.
We arrived a little before 10 a.m., already all the mahi-mahi was gone. However there was still tuna. We picked out a five pound one. It was cut into steaks and we paid $20 usd for the five pounds. It seems at home we would be paying $20 per pound.

Well that allowed us to spend time hiking today. We returned to Fort Shirley. The road we drove on the first Sunday we were here was there. But you know Beryl and the storm surge, decided the road shouldn’t exist anymore. They government came in quickly to make it passable.

This trip we hiked the East Cabrit Trail. We passed the commandant’s quarters, the officers’ quarters, the ruins of the guardhouse, and the ruins of a battery position. At two of the viewpoints I expected to see cannons. No cannons, but later on we found two cannons that hadn’t been cleaned up with the forest taking them over. In total we hiked 2.5 miles.

After the hike we stopped at Bell Halls Beach for a quick dip.

We returned to rest and read for the afternoon. Oh and to have fish for dinner!
