Day 5 – A Short Hike

We started off our Sunday with our traditional Sunday vacation pancakes as we watched boats head North to avoid Beryl.

It’s a tradition since our first trip to the Bahamas. We made our first venture in 2004 to Staniel Cay. Our host lived in the house above and on Sunday we would go up for Mal’s pancakes. Since that time if we can find ricotta we make pancakes on Sunday while traveling. We do it to honor the couple that helped us to fall in love with the Bahamas.

After that I made a mango pie for dessert. This isn’t the finished product, just how it looked going into the fridge for the day. Scroll down if you just want to see it all fancy.

We decided, as the storm wasn’t upon us yet and the weather was nice we would drive 10 minutes to Fort Shirley to explore and hike. We visited the fort, admiring the views. We hiked the West Cabrits Trail to an overlook that included a cannon at the top.

Returning from that excursion we needed the ocean to cool off. We stopped at Cabrits beach and jumped in. The view was beautiful as we floated in the water.

Boaters were asked to either leave or pull their boats out. Well many boats didn’t do that, so maybe they are optimistic or fools or weather wise to keep their boats on moorings.

Had an early day, back for lunch at the rental, a lazy afternoon that included a nap for me.

Sunset and dessert coincided.

Beryl is keeping south of us. We are issued a tropical storm watch, no warning. Thankful for us, but sad for the catastrophic hurricane it is going to be to other islands.

It was a good day.
