Day 2 – Food Drama

Today my coffee with a view insta post almost didn’t happen. Yikes that would have been a disaster.

We usually travel with a pour over method, but this trip we didn’t. We knew the house had a drip coffee maker, so we decided not to pack our coffee making set up. Lesson learned , don’t do it again. Let’s just say when the coffee finally happened it was the strongest cup I’ve ever had. Mother Nature rewarded Mike’s perseverance with a rainbow.

After a cup we headed up the crazy street to get a walk on. We went up .36 miles with an elevation gain of 350 feet. The views were lovely, but that incline.

We needed more groceries, off we went to Roseau, to the largest grocery store. It is 32 miles from the rental and took us 1 hour and 20 minutes. The winding road wasn’t as bad as yesterday, but I still had to help Mike out and didn’t take any pictures.

The grocery store didn’t have the items we are accustomed to. There was no jelly!! How can we have our favorite travel lunch item without jelly? We have to figure something out.

After a very expensive food trip, we went to the outdoor vendors to pick up more fruit and fish. We got a 2 1/2 pound of fresh marlin for $8 U.S. WHAT?? That is an insane price, so it looks like we will be having fish most nights.

The ride back to the cottage was not as a terrifying, after having traveled it earlier. I still wasn’t taking photos.

We came home for lunch and decided to go snorkel in Toucari Bay.

We walked down to the bay and snorkeled away. We called this our shake down snorkel, as we haven’t snorkeled in two years. The cool thing about snorkeling here are the bubbles that rise from the ocean floor, due to this being a volcanic island.

We didn’t stay out long. We need to work on our photography skills, but we will get there. I swam over an eel just hanging out and let’s say I handled that better than how I handle barracudas.

After our snorkel, we returned to make dinner. For all the food we purchased, figuring out dinner was difficult. We ended with rice pilaf I made with local veggies, put the grilled Marlin on it and topped it with passionfruit.

Mike resumed his task of making island desserts on the fly. Some yogurt, fresh fruit and gingersnaps always make a delightful dessert.

Sunset was fascinating as a rain shower welcomed it and the sun disappeared behind clouds and re emerged as it sunk into the horizon.

The latest update to the tropical wave came across today. Looks like we might get a storm in. Which means we need to stock up with more food as we won’t be traveling.

So coffee crisis averted, the hunt for jelly will resume and we will be eating lots of fish!
